  • The Feed a Kitty foundation is Back

Perhaps the best thing done by the OSFPC so far is the accidental rekindling of the kitty foundation, but now we have even more to feed

One hundred percent of the profits made from the sale of every item in this store goes to care for lost and homeless animals. We feed them. We find homes for them when we can. We take them to one of our "farms" when we can't. We spay them. We neuter them. We get them rabies shots. And we return them to their homes whether it be with people or back to the nature based surroundings they are accustomed to. In short, we keep animals alive when the odds are very much against them.

True Feral Cats cannot be Tamed to Live with People as Pets

I wish with all my heart that feral cats could be tamed enough to live like pets with people. Sometimes we can find a home for them as a yard cat. Charlie would make a good yard cat, but he is too controlling. The tamest feral I have ever met, he will bite or grab you with his raptor like claws if you try to walk away before he is through being petted by you.

I hear it all the time, a feral cat moved in with us and now he is a member of our family. No, someone else's cat who strayed has found a new home with you. Feral, by definition is a cat that for whatever reason cannot be domesticated. Only if we can take them from the nest before they are seven or eight weeks old can they be tamed enough, and even then they will always be wilder than the average house cat. BTW, don't kiss a feral Tom on the head. It isn't sanitary. lol

I'm Never Really Comfortable Unless I Have an Animal Lying on Me.

Dogs don't need quite as much help as cats do. But they do need it. Here is the deal though. If you take a dog to the humane society, they will usually find a home for it. You hear the horror stories of when they don't, but more often than not people can be found to take in the dog. Cats are not as fortunate. If you take a feral cat to an animal shelter, it doesn't have a chance. They take this poor animal, who is probably in contact with humans for the very first time, is frightenedout of its mind, has been trapped while out scanging for food, is malnurished, and they put that animal in a small room with a human and test it to see if it has any social skills. When it fails the test, they put it down. In short, we don't do that. Ever. When the cat fails the social skills test, we start trying to find a barn for it. If it is too wild for that setting, we take it to one of our farms. The Cat House down in Texas is 40 acres of mice and water. The Chigger Farm near Guthrie, Oklahoma is about the same. You can't walk without stepping on a mouse around here.
